Hurricane Katia Briefing #01

This morning we face Katia, a minimal hurricane in the open waters of the Atlantic.  While she currently poses no threat to land, she may try to take a run at the US in about a week or so.  Here is an NHC that I scribbled on to get a feel for the potential track of the storm:
While the NHC is generally looking like a fish storm for the first couple of days, it does mysteriously turn the storm back at the SE coastline.  If we were to extrapolate the track, the storm would impact areas not as seriously hit by Irene.  However, we would be looking at a stronger storm than Irene was.  Time will tell.  Here is the ensemble forecast for this storm:
While a few of the models do continue the recurve out to sea, another few of them do seem to turn this storm back at the US, explaining the NHC's latest forecast.  While we are looking at the NHC, we might as well see Accuweather's forecast as well:
That is all I have for you currently.  Stay tuned!
