Severe Weather in the Plains

Severe Weather Update

Doing a late night run-down before I hit the hay ("young and developing" boys like me need their sleep).  Let's start with Severe Thunderstorm Watch 659.  As of right now, there is one dying thunderstorm that may be producing damaging winds and a tornado, but this thunderstorm is diminishing and is the only one out there.  Severe Thunderstorm Watch number 660 has a few strong thunderstorms, but nothing severe as they start to weaken with a loss of instability.  And over watch number 661, we see a classic case of great environment but no storms maintaining themselves.  We may see something fire briefly out there, but at this point, the severe threat is rather marginal.  I hate to say it, but today seems to have been a "bust."  Before we jump to conclusions, we must say that there remains potential for some sort of thunderstorm cluster to develop on the North/South Dakota border.  And again, a couple more strong-severe storms may fire in or just south of Severe Thunderstorm Watch 661, where we see an incredibly favorable environment for something to pop up.  Weaker forcing though will keep storms somewhat limited.  Good night, and stay tuned.
