Severe Weather in the Plains

Tropicast: 07/22/2011

Good morning to everybody!  Today, I was almost surprised to see that Tropical Storm Bret was finally Tropical Depression Bret.  He should continue his slow arduous weakening trend, and will be gone by the end of the day tomorrow.  Then we have Cindy, who is moving Northeastward over colder waters.  Cindy is almost off of the NHC's map, which isn't something you see every day.  Cindy is also weakening, and will also be gone by the end of the day tomorrow.  Finally, we have Dora.  Dora has weakened down to a Category 1 hurricane.  As expected, southern Baja California is now under a tropical storm warning due to Dora's closeness.  It looks like Dora is going to pull a Bret, and simply stick around barely alive for a couple of days.  We will watch.  A brief check of the satellite (available on Dora's page!) shows that Dora has lost her eye and everything that makes her look like a more classic hurricane.  Conditions have become ever more favorable for a spin-up type tropical cyclone along the coastline of the US, which is definitely something to watch for possible land impact.  All in all, stay tuned.
